Upcoming Workshops

PENC offers National Board initial certification and renewal workshop FREE to all educators. Click on the dates below for more information and to register.

Lily, Sarah, Grace is an organization that brings art and creativity back into the classroom through a method of teaching that is dynamic, highly engaging and most importantly inclusive to all types of learners. On November 14 and 21 Lily, Sarah, Grace will be hosting a professional development opportunity for educators to learn strategies and exercising to engage all types of learners that can be implemented in the classroom immediately. Learn more about Lily, Sarah, Grace here. We have the opportunity to provide free attendance for 5 of our members to the Lily, Sarah, Grace workshops. If interested, please email Alex Knepp at [email protected] to let us know why you are interested in attending and how you feel it would enhance the educational experience for your students.

Exciting Opportunities

2016 IEI High School Prize Compeition

The 2016 LGFCU Emerging Issues High School Prize for Innovation challenges teams of high school students to create new, exciting ways to engage other high school-aged students—particularly those at risk of dropping out—in volunteer opportunities in their schools or community. Learn more here.

If selected, students will win $5,000 to turn their great ideas into a reality! 

To apply, please

1. Come up with your great idea for getting disengaged students to volunteer.
2. Identify a few teammates and a mentor to help you get going.
3. Work with your team and mentor to create a plan of action.
4. Fill out this application package and submit by November 9, 2015.

Promoting Innovation in Science and Mathematics
Deadline:  December 7, 2015

Supports teachers in their efforts to promote excitement for science and mathematics in the classroom.

  • Open to all public K-12 North Carolina teachers.
  • Provides up to $3000 to cover the cost of equipment, materials, and supplies to implement hands-on science and mathematics curriculum in the classroom.
  • Provides up to an additional $1500 for training and professional development related to the implementation of the new materials.
