#PROPS TO NICOLE!

PENC member, Nicole Byrd-Phelps, of D.F. Walker Elementary School shares her achievement of a musical program she created at her school.

“Last year, I started a program called “Monday Morning Music.”  On Monday mornings, we have live music in our school cafeteria as breakfast is served to our students.  This gives students something to look forward to & enables them to be exposed to a wide variety of musical styles.  Student behavior usually is improved on those Mondays, due to the focus on the music.  Community musicians are featured, as well as our own students.  Students & community members alike have an opportunity to showcase their talents.  The performers are videoed, & the performances are shared via Facebook, school e-mail, & the D.F. Walker Music website.  We are proud to see this become a positive part of our school environment, each week.”
