2024 NC Election Recap

It was a late night for North Carolinians as the state’s polls closed at 7:30 p.m. last Tuesday. Many precincts did not finish reporting their ballots until early Wednesday morning.

Overall, there is a new Democrat Governor, and the Republican-held Legislature did lose supermajorities. Despite losing the supermajorities, the General Assembly remains relatively the same after the election cycle. The NC House lost the supermajority by one seat; however, with the numbers being so close to a supermajority, there are still avenues to go down for the General Assembly to pass a budget during the upcoming biennium.

The NC Senate was able to maintain a supermajority and increase their numbers by one seat.

The State Superintendent race was close and shifted with elected Democrat Maurice "Mo" Greene.

The following are the Council of State election results:

The total seats for each party in the House and Senate are included below:

We continue to work hard for public education in North Carolina and hope for higher teacher pay during the upcoming biennium.

* These are the numbers as of 11/6/24 and are susceptible to minor changes. There are a handful of races that have not been called (ex. the Senate Republicans could pick up one more seat)
