SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

CONTINUING EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS

The PENC Executive board invites members in good standing who pursue graduate studies in education or leadership. We will support your professional endeavors by making the checkout directly to your college or university. Two scholarships of $500 scholarships will be awarded to selected applicants. Members may apply as many times as they wish, but past recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to reapply. 

Deadline to apply is March 1.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

The PENC Executive board invites members in good standing who plan to pursue professional development (PD) opportunities to apply for a Professional Development Scholarship. Two scholarships of $250 will be awarded to selected applicants.  Members may apply as many times as they wish, but past recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to reapply.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CHILDREN OF PENC MEMBERS

The PENC Executive board invites members in good standing to apply for college tuition scholarships. Four scholarships of $500 each will be awarded to applicants with children who graduate from a high school or a GED program, and are enrolled as a full-time college students by the fall semester of the calendar year in which they earn the scholarship.

 

Checks made out to the college or university will be presented to the recipients at their Senior Awards Night or mailed directly to their college or university.   Children of Members may apply as many times as they wish as long as they qualify, but past recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to reapply.

 

Deadline to apply is February 28.

NATIONAL BOARD SCHOLARSHIPS

The PENC Executive board invites members in good standing who are currently working in pursuit of their initial or renewal National Board Certification to apply. Required documents for submission for this scholarship are proof of completion of any two components for Initial certification or complete submission of the Maintenance of Certification (MOC- renewal) portfolio.

 

Scholarships will not be considered unless required documents are included.  Members may apply as many times as they wish, but past recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to reapply.

GRANT OPPORTUNITIES

NCCAT SUBS-ON-US GRANTS

The PENC Executive board invites members attending a program offered via the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) to apply for a grant to cover the cost of a substitute teacher for up to five school days.  Often the cost of subs keeps teachers from being able to attend.  We want to help by covering the cost for your sub!

There is no specific deadline, applications are considered first come, first served.

NEW TEACHER
GRANTS

The PENC Executive board invites members in good standing in their first three years of practice who demonstrate a need for instructional supplies. Eight $500 grants will be awarded to educators who propose innovative ways to utilize instructional materials that actively engage students. Teachers from all areas of practice are encouraged to apply.

Deadline to apply is November 15.

CLASSROOM
GRANTS

The PENC Executive board is most excited about our newest grants.  Eight $250 grants will be awarded to educators who are members before October 31, 2023.    Educators members from all content areas are eligible and will be automatically entered into the drawing.  One winner from each educational region will be drawn at random to win this grant.

Deadline: Must be an current member in good standing by October 31st.  *All members automatically entered, no registration necessary.

STUDENT TEACHER
CLOTHING GRANTS

The PENC Executive board invites student members who plan and are scheduled to student teach during the current school year to apply for the clothing grant. Two $200 grants will be awarded to student members to assist with purchasing appropriate professional attire as they embark on the teaching profession.  One grant will be given for each semester.  Gift cards will be given for the clothing store of the winners' choice.

Two Deadlines to Apply:

  1. Fall Student Teaching is September 15th.

  2. Spring Student Teaching is January 15th.

  • Letter from student teacher supervisor stating that you are enrolled in student teaching for the semester.

NEW TEACHER (BT1) CLOTHING GRANTS

The PENC Executive board invites first-year teacher members who are in BT1 status  for the current school year to apply for the clothing grants. Two $300 grants will be awarded to First Year Teachers (BT1s) to assist with purchasing appropriate professional attire as they embark on their first year of teaching.  Gift cards will be given for the clothing store of the winners' choice.

Deadline to Apply is October 15th.

  • Letter from HR or BT coordinator stating that you are a first year teacher and in BT1 status.

STUDENT LOAN PAYMENT ASSISTANCE GRANT

The PENC Executive board understands the need for a student loan assistance opportunity whether you are a new or veteran teacher; therefore, the board invites current members in good standing to apply for the Student Loan Payment Assistance Grant. One grant (up to $3,000) will be awarded to one member to pay for 12 months of student loan payments.  Payments will be made directly to the member's student loan servicing agent. 

 

Parent loans are not eligible for this grant. Members may apply as many times as they wish, but past recipients of the grant are not eligible to reapply.
